CENTRAL PROVINCE FORUM

Central province forum was held on 23rd of January 2019 at SETIK auditorium Kandy with the participation of 35 members

Mr. Murugiah joined as the resource person and we continued to talk about the land issues and about salary increments.

Furthermore, we discussed,

  1. What is a collective agreement
  2. What are the things included in such a cen p f 5cen p f 3cen p p 2document?
  3. The parties who are supposed to sign during the agreement and also about the relevant trade unions who are connected with the procedure etc…..

SYMPOSIUM AND REGIONAL GATHERING

There were a symposium and a regional gathering held on 24th and 25th of January 2019 at Samurdhi hall in Ratnapura By representing Kandy, Badulla, Gall and Rathnapura diocese. 85 members with consists of religious leaders, diocesan directors, government officers interreligious group members, and some intellectuals had taken part this particular event. This programme conducted under the theme of ‘The safe nation by protecting all religions’.

It is to be highlighted that this event was organized by Caritas – Rathnapura Sethmini organization with the guidance of Caritas Colombo SEDEC

 

INVOLVING LOCAL MEDIA TO PROMOTE INTER RELIGIOUS HARMONY

Involving local media to promote interreligious harmony programme was held on 06th of April 2019 at SETIK auditorium Kandy

This programme was conducted by the PCV unit of Caritas Kandy SETIK with the participation of 25 members including religious leaders, PCV project field members, PCV Advisory committee members, Sunday school teachers, social activists and also media persons.

This was carried out under the theme of “prevention of drug abuse with the contribution of media” Here they suggested that everyone in the community must work together to prevent drug addiction. Therefore the children must be directed with spiritual guidance.

Rev Fr. Desmond Perera, The Hindu religious leader of Mahaiyawa temple, The Islamic leader of Katupalli mosque Stated that they have already started the spiritual guidance for their children. WOMEN’S DAY – 2018

The women’s day of the caritas Kandy Setik was organized on the 8th of December 2018 in Nawalapitiya at the conference hall of hotel ‘Ishvarya’

The programme started with a street drama and a peaceful march which commenced from the Nawalapitiya bus station proceeded to the Ishvarya reception hall.

The chief guest was Rev Fr Desmond Perera (The Director Caritas Kandy Setik)and the guest of honor was Miss Sumithra (L.L.B)

In her speech Miss Sumithra pointed out what are the current issues on women in Sri Lankan society and how to reach out solutions regarding those matters. She spoke about  women rights and migration issues specially in the plantation sector.

INTERNATIONAL TEA DAY – 2018

DSC_1713International tea day was celebrated in Bogawantalawa on the 15th of December 2018 in the Church Hall of Holy Rosary under the theme of “Let’s raise our voice to safeguard the rights of plantation workers”.

Rev Fr Anton Wyman Croos, the director of Caritas Chilaw Janasaviya was the chief guest of this event. Rev Fr Desmond Perera the director of Caritas Kandy Setik, Rev.Fr. Magaladas the coordinating priest of Matale district, Rev  Fr Neuman Peiris the coordinating priest of Nuwara-eliya district, Rev Fr Jamika Perera the director of Kurunegala Janasetha, Rev Fr Charles Mariyadas the parish priest of Holy Rosary Church Bogawanthalawa, Dr. kishan the presidents’ health sector advisor joined us ,as special guests to facilitate this day. CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION – 2018

The Christmas Programme was celebrated on the 12th of December 2018 in the SETIK auditorium kandy. Rev Fr Desmond Perera Director of Caritas Kandy Setik was the chief guest of this event.

In his address, he pointed out the importance of celebrating Christmas along with other religious communities. And also how to practice this sort of platforms to proceed good work related to inter religious harmony.

D B L C Official Visit – 2017

The Director of the D B L C Project Mr.Peter Van Hoof and finance auditor Mr.Christin Wouters were in Sri Lanka  on an official   visit from 1st July to the 4th of July.  During their visit they had  discussions with Rt.Rev.Dr.Vianney Fernando, the Bishop of kandy  the Chairman Caritas SEDEC and the  Caritas Kandy Setik Director Rev.Fr.Desmond Perera. They were very much interested in visiting  the fields where DBLC  is  working  and we too was honored by having them with us.

 

Relief to the Floods victims at Galle District

Our Organization Caritas Kandy SETIK along with some of the Parishes in the diocese of Kandy, contributed immensely to the victims affected by the landslides and floods in the district of Galle. Rev. Fr. Desmond Perera- the Director of SETIK and the staff handed over the relief goods to the Director of the Caritas SED GALLE

Self-Employment Programme for Women Empowerment

The women’s societies ‘Samagi’ of Mahaiyawa and ‘Siriliya’ of Welikanda obtain their services from the ‘Micro Finance Project’ of the Caritas SETIK Organization. Accordingly these two societies have obtained micro finance loans to be distributed among the members to commence their self-employment.

Now, these members successfully engage in their employment and earn a good income. This has become a strength to their societies too. Now, these members display their characteristics of leadership and sustainability A Micro Finance loans of Rs.60,000/= each was given to these societies with the patronage of  Rev. Father Director of SETIK.

Poson Full Moon Day Flower Dhansala (Almsgiving)

A flower Dhansala was held at the historical Aluviharaya Rajamaha Viharaya in Matale, which was jointly organized by the peace committees of Thembilideniya, Bellanoya, Welangahawatta & Kandenuwara. On this occasion flowers were distributed among the devotees for offering. This event was co-ordinated by the SETIK staff and organized by these peace committees.
